Mark Gardener

Mark is an ecologist, lecturer, data consultant and author specialising in data analysis with a focus on R: the statistical programming language. Mark runs training courses in data analysis and statistics through his company Previously, he has worked as an Associate Tutor at the Field Studies Council and as an Associate Lecturer at the Open University, teaching ecology and environmental science. Mark has published five textbooks, such as The Essential R Reference and Community Ecology - Analytical Methods Using R and Excel. He holds a PhD in Ecology from the Open University.

João Monteiro

Joao joined Nature Medicine as Chief Editor in December 2017. He has been serving the scientific community as a professional editor since 2013, when he joined Cell as the primary editor for immunology and translational medicine. Joao received his medical training at the Federal University in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, where he also earned a PhD degree, studying mechanisms of Treg function and loss of tolerance to self-antigens in autoimmune diseases. Afterwards he was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from The Pew Charitable Trust and joined the lab of Ron Germain, at the National Institutes of Health in the USA, to pursue studies on T cell antigen recognition and in vivo dynamics of the immune responses.

Bhramar Mukherjee

Bhramar is the John D. Kalbfleisch Collegiate Professor and Chair at the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. She is also Professor at the Department of Epidemiology, and Professor in Global Public Health as well as Research Professor and Core Faculty Member at the Michigan Institute of Data Science. Bhramar serves as the Associate Director for Quantitative Data Sciences at University of Michigan’s Rogel Cancer Center. Her research interests include statistical methods for analysis of electronic health records, studies of gene-environment interaction, Bayesian methods, shrinkage estimation, analysis of multiple pollutants. She has led numerous collaborations in the areas of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, reproductive health, exposure science and environmental epidemiology. Bhramar has co-authored more than 300 publications in statistics, biostatistics, medicine and public health and is serving as Principal Investigator on NSF and NIH funded grants. She is the founding director of the University of Michigan’s summer institute on Big Data and a fellow of the American Statistical Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. She is the recipient of many awards for her scholarship, service and teaching at the University of Michigan and beyond.

Xavier Vilasis-Cardona

Xavier is Director for Doctoral Studies and full professor at the Engineering Department at la Salle, Universitat Ramon Llull, with research interests in particle physics, high-energy physics, data science, data analysis, neural networks, machine learning and artificial intelligence. He is Head of DS4DS (Data Science for the Digital Society), a research group focused on developing and applying data science techniques and studying their impact in the digital society. He is also a member of the Large Hadron Collider beauty collaboration (CERN), as well as member of the IEEE - Cellular Nonlinear Networks and Array Computing Technical Committee. Xavier has taught subjects in advanced math, probability, numerical analysis, calculus, physics, optical communications, neural networks, control theory, data analysis and advanced statistics. He has a Physics degree and a PhD in Physics from Universitat de Barcelona.

Bronwyn Wake

Bronwyn joined Nature Climate Change in 2012. She has handled research manuscripts and review and opinion articles across the entire breadth of physical climate sciences, the marine and aquatic environment, and interdisciplinary articles integrating natural and social science disciplines in the context of climate and global environmental change. In November 2014, she moved to the Sydney office before returning to the London office to become Chief Editor in May 2016. Bronwyn completed her postgraduate studies at University of Tasmania in Australia, with a PhD in trace element biogeochemistry and first-class Honours in Antarctic Studies. Her postdoctoral work at the University of Southampton, UK and at the European Institute for Marine Studies in France focused on trace metal cycling in marine waters and their roles as micronutrients for phytoplankton.
