About Saber Riad

KEY QUALIFICATIONS Saber Riad is a zoologist with a Master’s degree in insect biology and ecology, insect evolution and biogeography. He is an experienced field researcher having conducted field research in a great variety of habitats ranging from remote extreme desert areas to densely populated, anthropogenic habitats in the Egyptian Nile Valley. His field experience includes habitat survey, classification and assessment as well as zoological survey and sampling. His field work also included application of quick assessment procedures for geological, geomorphological and surface drainage patterns. EDUCATION 2015 M. Sc. in Insect Ecology Faculty of Science, Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt Thesis title: Evaluation of bee venom and some bee wax derivatives as antiviral agent on certain cell lines. 2005 B. Sc. in Zoology (Excellent, top of the 2005 class) Faculty of Science, Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt POSITIONS 2015 – Present: Teaching Assistant Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt 2013 – 2015 Demonstrator Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt 2005 – 2012 Chemist SharafChem auxilaries El Sharqeiya, Egypt RESEARCH INTEREST AND OBJECTIVES Exploring the systematics and evolution of Egyptian fauna based on a multi-dimensional approach that integrates morphologic, molecular genetic and ecologic attributes of the animal on one hand, and the history of the physical and biotic elements of its evolutionary landscape on the other. Extensive genetic and morphologic analysis of the highly fragmented populations of Insects species of diverse ecological requirements presents a good opportunity to explore evolutionary history and the historical biogeography of the faunal dispersion between Asia and Africa. PROJECT EXPERIENCE National Park Development: Member of the Al-Azhar University team of volunteering scientists undertaking field, biodiversity survey and assessment of conservation value of 11 new national parks/protected areas in Egypt. For the Nature Conservation Sector, Ministry of Environment.
