Shohini Ghose

Shohini is a multi-award-winning physicist, researching how the laws of quantum physics can be applied to computation and communication. As a Professor of Physics and Computer Science at Wilfrid Laurier University, she has been recognised for her excellence in research and teaching, was elected to the College of the Royal Society of Canada in 2017 and was featured among 25 women from around the world in the UNESCO “Remarkable Women in Technology” exhibition in 2019. She is a strong advocate for diverse and inclusive science as a Founding Director of the Laurier Centre for Women in Science and she holds one of five Canadian Chairs for Women in Science and Engineering. As a regular speaker at a variety of conferences and on multiple media platforms, Shohini is also a celebrated science communicator. In 2014 she was selected as one of 20 TED Fellows and one of 10 TED Senior Fellows in 2018. Her TED talk, ‘A beginner’s guide to quantum computing’, has been viewed more than 4.5 million times.
