Despina Sanoudou

Despina is an Associate Professor, Head of the Clinical Genomics and Pharmacogenomics Unit at the 4th Department of Internal Medicine, at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and a Collaborating Scientist at the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens. She holds a PhD in Molecular Cytogenetics (University of Cambridge), is certified in Laboratory Genetics (American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics) and has served as an Instructor at Harvard Medical School. Her current research focuses on the discovery of novel diagnostic and prognostic markers, the identification of new therapeutic targets, and the development of new therapeutic approaches against cardiovascular diseases. Her work has been widely published in renowned journals. Despina has received more than 20 awards for her achievements in science, including the L’Oréal-UNESCO award for Young Women in Science. Throughout her scientific career, Despina has collaborated with research teams around the globe and has also demonstrated her in-depth understanding of the importance of networking as a speaker at the Enago Academy’s session “Finding a Perfect Research Collaborator: How to Build a Robust Research Network”.
