Alicia Newton

Former Senior Editor, Nature Geoscience, Nature Research

Alicia Newton's studies have focused on various aspects of palaeoceanography and micropalaeontology, including the use of foraminifera to reconstruct Holocene and Quaternary tropical ocean conditions and describing the microfossil composition of Silurian microbial reefs. She has also been active in secondary and undergraduate geoscience education practice and pedagogy. At the time of her contribution to our courses Alicia was a senior editor at Nature Geoscience, and had been with the journal for 10 years. Prior to joining Nature Research, she completed her PhD in geosciences at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, where she reconstructed temperature and salinity variations in the Indo-Pacific warm pool over the past 26,000 years.
